Our History

Carmel School, Upper Balijodi, Jalda, is an offshoot of Carmel School, Hamirpur, Rourkela, which celebrated fifty years of its presence in Rourkela in 2007. As a sign of gratitude to God for His providential care over the 50 fruitful years of Carmel School, Rourkela, the Apostolic Carmel Sisters under the leadership of Sr.Veronica Kamath A.C and Sr.Supreeka A.C took the initiative to open this new school. The idea to open a new school lingered on in the minds of the sisters as they were preparing for the Jubilee celebrations. Carmel School, Upper Balijodi, Jalda was the fruit of the desire to reach out to more students of Odisha. After a long time of hard work and prayer, the dream came true in 2008.

Carmel School, Upper Balijodi Jalda was started on 17th March 2008 calling itself as the Golden Jubilee Memorial School, a gift from the Apostolic Carmel Sisters of Hamirpur, Rourkela of the Eastern Province in India, with its head office in Kolkata, West Bengal and the Generalate in Bangalore. Carmel School is a Christian Institution established and administered by the Apostolic Carmel Education Society of Odisha, in the Roman Catholic Church. The school is under the Religious Jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Rourkela.

Carmel School, Jalda started with very humble and minimal facilities. The school started the Nursery and K.G I with 75 students on roll. Sr.Maria Sofia A.C. and Sr. Maria Anuja A.C. were the first teachers. About 50 students were in Nursery and 25 students were in K.G I. Sr.Amicia A.C and Sr.Ashika A.C joined the school in the month of June 2008. The school is growing with the number of students increasing from Nursery to Cl.X. Carmel School,Jalda is a co-ed school. The school is provisionally affiliated to ICSE in April 2020 and now prepares students for the ICSE examination conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi. The medium of instruction is English with Odia and Hindi as second and third languages to be learnt in School. To lay emphasis on moral and spiritual values, course on moral or religious instruction is an essential part of its curriculum. The school aims at the education of all the children unmindful of caste, creed, colour, religion. The school aims at academic excellence, development of skills and character formation, based on the love of God and service of men and women, as modeled on spiritual Gurus, with a view to training citizens, remarkable for an all- round development and a sincere commitment to God.
